Someone who is a professional machinist suggested that I should get these for drilling the deeper holes in 80% lowers. He said that they do a much better job of augering out the chips amongst other advantages over standard twist flute drill bits especially for holes deeper than 4x diameter. Has anyone got any experience with this kind of bit? They are quite a bit more expensive than standard flute bits.
Also what do people think about bits that are TiN coated? Other than the pretty gold color are they really that much better than plain HSS for drilling in aluminum?

Parabolic drills are amazing. I try to use them when I setup a production job on the CNCs. But Ive never tried them on a drill press. Some of the factors that allow a parabolic to drill deep pecks is flood coolant, and a calculated feed rate. I wouldn't recommend it for the holes with interrupted cuts. But it may be worth a shot for the 1/8 drill.
TiN coated drills are a waste of money on a drill press. Or any coated drill for that matter. You're going to chip it before you wear it out. Although, it works good on a CNC because of a calculated feed rate. Wear is a bigger issue.
Side note: We use parabolic drills for the jig top plates. And yes theyre coated. I dont remember which coating.

I bought a few to try and have had mixed results. I think you are right about the interrupted cuts.
